What The Hell Is Going On With PANDEMIC P

The Clippers like to run these staggered screens for Paul George to get open at the 3 point line. And from there he’s been deadly this year. Despite attempting almost 8 threes a game, George has been absolutely on fire shooting 48 and a half percent from downtown.
There is no sign whatsoever of Pandemic P that went viral last season in the playoffs.
Of course as I was prepping to make this video he had a subpar shooting night but I still wanna give credit where credit is due. What up everybody my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it.
Here is another simple action that gets him open. From this setup he can curl to the other side, or get the ball under the basket but instead he just fakes it and goes to the corner. The pass, the shot, and the bucket.
And right here in transition as the defense is gonna collapse on this pick and roll, Batum notices that and sets a nice back screen so PG is left wide open for this shot.
Of course a big portion of his threes come off of the attention that Kawhi gets, and for a guy who’s been labeled as a below average passer Leonard does set up PG with some great looks so props to him.
And it’s not just George but in fact everything is rolling right now for the Clippers, as they are actually number 1 in the league with 42.3% as a team. How good is that?
Well to put it in perspective, that’s like having a team full of Kyle Korvers, since his career 3 point percentage is pretty similar.
Is this sustainable tho? Well that’s a whole nother conversation.
Of course we can’t expect them to shoot at this level for the entire season but that’s also the case when we talk about Paul George as well.
Looking at some of these shots, you can see that there are quite a lot of incredibly tough and contested threes. Which of course he has the ability to make, but when you continuously take them throughout the season, the odds are that the percentage will go down.
PG has also been known to have both hot but cold streaks as well. Just last night he went 2 for 8 and we’ll see where this goes from here, but for now, as much as he’s been criticized- I feel like we have to mention him right now when he does play well and especially shoot the ball incredibly.
Overall George is at 24 points 6 rebounds and 5 and a half assists.
As of this moment he is over 50% from the field, 40% from 3 and 90% from the free throw line, but again, we’ll see how these numbers look at the end of the season.
